There were 3065 home sales in Houston for January 2009.  These numbers are lower than their one and two year prior counterparts.  The number in January 2009 was 24.9 percent lower than January 2008, and 34.02 percent lower than January 2007.  January 2001 had 2789 sales.  This is the last time Houston had a number of home sales lower than posted in January 2009.  

The homes sold in January 2009 had low sales prices, too.  The average home price was $165,900, which is 12.04 percent lower than January 2008, and the lowest average since January 2004.  That month had an average of $160,000 and a median sales price of $124,500.  January 2004 was also the last month to have a median price lower than January 2009’s $129,700.
